Summer's coming

It has been a long while since I have written anything, either there wasn't much to tell, or just no time to do it... Sorry.
Since I last wrote, the Semester has been going on full force, I had class every day (some Professors took to our assigned reading quite literally... out loud!) and I tried to enjoy the Italian weather and way of life as much as possible. There were Midterms and last week the last written Finals. Now only the Oral Exams and a few Papers a left to do, and then I'm done for this Semester!!!
A couple of weeks ago we had absolutely great weather: sunny and 77°F, then came the rain :-( And it stayed for quite a while. Only now and then was there a dry day, but it stayed cold nonetheless. But since last weekend the thermometer is on the rise, I was even on the beach yesterday at Noli and got a bit tanned :-)))) And the forecast ist looking good: today 75°F and it seems to stay in the mid-70s for the next couple of days.
I'm getting a visitor next month, I'm really excited about that, and end of June I'm going to a little traveling.
I think ERASMUS is good for mir ;-)

Es Kommt der Sommer

Es ist jetzt schon ewig her, dass was geschrieben habe, ich hab einfach nichts groß zu erzählen oder zu viel zu tun... Sorry.
Also, in letzter Zeit lief das Semester hier auf vollen Touren, ich hatte täglich Vorlesungen (die manche Profs tatsächlich wörtlich genommen haben!) und soweit wie möglich das Italienische Wetter genossen. Es gab Zwischenprüfungen Mitte des Semesters, und letzte Woche waren die letzten schriftlichen Final Exams. Jetzt sind nur noch mündliche Prüfungen dran und ein paar Paper dann bin ich Fertig für dieses Semester!!!
Vor ein paar Wochen hatten wir hier richtiges Bombenwetter: strahlender Sonnenschein und 25°C, dann kam der Regen :-( Under der blieb ne ganze Weile. Es gab nur hin und wieder mal 'nen trockenen Tag, aber es blieb ständig kalt. Aber seit letzten Wochenende ist das Thermometer wieder am Aufstieg, ich war gestern sogar mit Freunden am Strand in Nilo und bin ein bischen braun geworden :-)))) Und die Aussichten sehen gut aus: heute 24°C und es scheint in den nächsten Tagen in den Mitt-20gern zu bleiben.
Im Juni bekomme ich Besuch aus der Heimat, da freu ich mich schon Riesig drauf, und Ende Juni geh ich ein bischen auf Reisen.
Ich glaube, ERASMUS tut mir gut ;-)

Grolla dell'amicizia

Hi everyone,
I know, I should write much more often, but often there isn't much to tell.
But here's a little something I think you will like.
My Roommates, Ricki and Mariano invited some friends tonight, it was a fun round of people. We had wine, salami, grissini, assorted cheeses, polenta and wild boar.
After dinner, Italiens usually have Caffé (Espresso, for all you non-Italians out there ;-)). Well, Ricki is from Aosta, a region near Turin, and he decided to serve it Aosta-Style tonight: Caffé alla valdostana in a Grolla della val d'Aosta. A Grolla is a wooden bowl with 6-8 spouts around the rim.
The coffee is an explosive mix of Espresso, Grappa, Genepy and lots and lots of sugar that is set on fire!
There are two rules when drinking from a Grolla: 1) always look the goat in the eyes, and 2) the one who sets the Grolla down has to empty it on his own!
This can be a lot of fun, especially if the alcohol level is rising ;-)
Here's the recipe for all who want to try:
for 6 persons
6 cups of Espresso
6 shots of Grappa
1,5 shots of Cointreau or Genepy
peels of one lemon and one orange
half of an apple
12-14 tsp of sugar
Heat the mixture in a pot on the stove (donnot boil!). Wet the rim and the spouts of the Grolla and sprinkle liberally with sugar. Fill in the liquid only and set it on fire!
Stir until the sugar rim starts to caramelize, then put the lid on it.
Now drink directly from the Grolla and pass it on to your friends.
Tastes really good, and is lots of fun!

Grolla dell'amicizia

Hi Ihr Lieben.
Ich weiß, ich schreib viel zu selten, aber man hat halt nicht immer so viel zu erzählen.
Aber hier ist etwas, was Euch glaub ich gefallen wird.
Meine lieben Mitbewohner, Ricki und Mariano, haben heute Abend einige Freunde eingeladen, es ist eine lustige Runde geworden. Es gab Wein, Salami, Grissini, alle möglichen Käsesorten, Polenta und Wildschwein.
Nach dem Essen trinken Italiener normalerweise immer Caffé (Espresso, für alle nicht Italiener ;-)) Nun beschloss Ricki (er stammt aus Aosta, eine Gegend in der Nähe von Turin) es heute mal auf Aosta-Weise zu machen: es gab Caffé alla valdostana in einer Grolla della val d'Aosta.
Eine Grolla ist eine geschnitzte Holzschale, die rund um den Rand mit 6-8 'Ausgießern' bestückt ist.
Der Kaffee ist eine explosive Mischung aus Espresso, Grappa, Genepy und viel Zucker die zum Schluss angezündet wird!
Es gibt zwei Regeln beim Grolla-trinken: 1) schau dem Bock immer in die Augen, und 2) wer die Schale absetzt muss sie leer trinken!
Das kann gefährlich werden, je höher der Alkoholpegel ist ;-)
Hier das Rezept, für alle die es mal ausprobieren wollen:
für 6 Personen
6 Tassen Espresso
6 Stamperl Grappa
1,5 Stamperl Cointreau oder Genepy
Schale eine Zitrone und einer Orange
ein Halber Apfel
12-15 TL Zucker
Das ganze in einem Topf erhitzen (nicht kochen!). Den Rand und die Ausgießer der Grolla befeuchten und mit Zucker bestreuen. Nur die Flüssigkeit in die Grolla füllen und anzünden! Umrühren bis der Zucker anfängt zu karamelisieren und dann den Deckel drauf.
Nun wird direkt aus der Grolla getrunken und an die Freunde weitergreicht.
Schmeckt echt gut und macht riesig Spaß!!!

Return To Turin

I returned to Turin today. It's a lot later than I originally planned... I had planned to stay 3-4 weeks in Munich. That turned into over 6 weeks when first I couldn't find a cheap flight and then missed the flight I did book. So here I am, finally back in Italy...
